Frequently Asked Questions
What security protocol is in place for Twining School?
Due to the Grand Forks Public School District [GFPSD] security protocol, all visitors entering the school building must check into the school office with identification to obtain a visitors badge. Upon leaving the building, visitors must return the badge and sign out at the school office.
What if I want to come into the building to drop off my child for the 8:20 a.m. start or wait outside his or her classroom at the end of the school day?
Due to the GFPSD security protocol, parents will not be able to enter the school building before, during, or after school without following the procedure stated above. This will be a standard procedure for all schools in the GFPSD. For the first few weeks of school, however, we will allow parents to walk K–3 grade students into the building if necessary to alleviate anxiety.
Does Twining School have security cameras?
The Grand Forks Public School District has installed an outer security camera at each of its schools’ Main Entrances as well as a buzzer system, controlled by the school office, for entry. All other doors will continue to be locked throughout the day. Currently, Twining Elementary and Middle School has 16 security cameras inside the building. Our school’s main entry door is Door 1.
Will my child be monitored by a staff member at his/her assigned door?
Staff will be assigned to each door beginning at 8:10 a.m. and teachers will be picking up students at their assigned door at 8:15 a.m. to walk them to their classrooms. Teachers will also be bringing students outside their assigned door at 3:00 p.m.
Will Twining School be providing childcare before and after school?
The Grand Forks Public School District does not provide before or after-school childcare for its students, unless through special program funds. Currently, we do not qualify for special programs such as Title I, which is based on the percentage of students receiving free or reduced lunch. Please contact the GFAFB Youth Center for details about the services they provide.
Will Twining School offer school breakfast?
Students purchasing breakfast or participating as a Free/Reduced Priced Meal may enter Door #1 as early as 7:40 a.m. to go to the school lunchroom. Once there, students must remain in the lunchroom until 8:20 a.m. Please encourage your child to bring materials to work on or books to read should he or she finish breakfast early. Supervision is provided.
What if my child is not participating in the school breakfast program?
All students not participating in Breakfast Club are required to wait outside until 8:20 a.m. Supervision outside each assigned door does not begin until 8:00 a.m., so parents are encouraged not to drop off students before 8:10 a.m. In the event of inclement weather {rain or extreme cold}, students will be allowed to enter the building at 8:10 a.m. Staff members assigned to the doors will determine inclement weather.
