Middle School Athletics Purpose

Middle school children are in a period of developmental growth, physically, mentally, and socially. Therefore, the emphasis of the interscholastic programs is not on winning, but on participation and skill development. Everyone is given the opportunity to practice and play to improve their skills.

7th and 8th graders have the opportunity to participate in the following sports at Twining Middle School: Football, Fast Pitch Softball, Volleyball, Wrestling, Basketball, Track & Field, and Soccer.

We are thrilled to announce some exciting changes to our athletic schedule for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. These updates are designed to enhance our sports programs, provide better opportunities for student-athletes, and foster a more vibrant and inclusive athletic community.

Starting with the 24/25 school year, middle school sport seasons align with high school sport seasons. Football, Boys Soccer, and Volleyball with begin in August, while Basketball and Wrestling will start in November/December. Softball, Girls Soccer, and Track and Field will take place in the spring. Below are the tentative dates for each sport.

  • Football: 8/19-10/12

  • Volleyball: 8/19-10/12

  • Boys Soccer: 8/19-10/12

  • Wrestling: 11/11-1/18

  • Basketball: 12/2-2/14

  • Track and Field: 4/1-5/24

If you are planning to participate in a fall sport, please obtain a sports physical and concussion form over the summer so you are ready to start practice on day one. Physicals and Concussion forms are good for one calendar year and are required to participate in GFPS athletics. Look for more information in late July and early August on our social media pages for requirements and potential schedules.
